So I'm a sometimes visitor of Fandom_wank, because it's funny. Whats better than reading about a hormonal catfight over the new Good Omens covers?

If you're a fan of a movie/book/comic book/tv show/band/celebrity or pretty much of anything...the odds are theres an online community (whether livejournal, yahoo, or otherwise) that's out there writing fanfiction. Basiclly, a large percentage of this writing is of a homosexual nature. For instance...if you like the tv show House, MD the fanfiction will probably involve a relationship between House and Wilson or House and Chase. Not all of it, but a good deal.

To the best of my understanding it appears that recently the Livejournal staff have been going through and deleting a large number of these fan communities, a lot of them Harry Potter based. I don't want to get too much in to it but basiclly a lot of writing about sex and sexual things etc etc, isn't it always about the nasty? If you all want to read more you can here.

It seems way sillier than need be with a lot of people getting really worked up over it. Kind of reminds me of one of those internet art theft things with more drama and people(Banrai, anyone?).

Anyway, it got me all thinking. My first thought was: They can't delete anyones community, pedophile or otherwise, because of freedom of speech. My second though was kind of two-fold consisting of: 'I'm pretty sure LJ can do whatever they want with the communities therein because they, in fact, own the site and the contents thereof and I'm sure users agree to this when they join' and 'The internet is not America and does not necessarily follow American law'. Which leads to sort of a dilema, doesn't it? What laws does the internet fall under? With so many people from so many different countries interacting things are bound to happen and when they do...whose laws do they fall under? The defendents or the prosecuters, or the site on which the issue occurs? It will be impossible for the world to agree on a set of laws, it seems so hazy to me. I'm kind of suprised something insanely messy hasn't happened yet. There's a huge potential for crime here.

And on that note...did anyone else laugh at the irony that Paris Hilton was let out of jail the day that Stupid Spoiled Whore re-ran on South Park? My mom pointed that one out to me. I laughed and laughed.
