As I type this I have found myself to have fallen, for the second time in as many weeks, deliriously sick. I don't get sick often during the school yeah so I don't really know what to make of it. Naturally I blame our cat, Jeremiah.

My roomate and I found him wandering the street last week and he has been living with us ever since. I take this as solid proof that I need to stop picking shit up off the street. That weeks find also included a wooden lamp of baroque tastes found in the bushes by a funeral home, and a dice found under a car.

I somehow managed to drag my ass to school and back again. I slept a good part of the afternoon and have spent the rest reading some really nasty Hellblazer. I've concluded that the horror comic is my equivalent of the trash novel. I also stared at the latest Rolling Stone and thought to myself, "I have a paper due Monday...ugh". But hey, what are working weekends at the hospital for if not doing my homework?

So all the photos above are of the same painting and you can see the progression. The first is 2 weeks of work, roughly 12 hours. Every one after that shows another week and 6-hour work time. The class is a year-long course with one pose for the entirety. The painting itself is not going to be pink when finished, I'm merely setting out tonal structure. I chose alizarin crimson for this because it is a color not found in the still life and its chroma does no change when tinted. I will probably begin laying down descriptive color in two or three weeks, if I work smart and fast. The end result will, hopefully, be a photo-realistic portrait.
